Day 9: Hereford, TX to Sayre, OK
178 miles / 8:15 hours moving, 46 min stopped / 3762' climbing, 5719' descent
21.5 mph avg, 39.2 mph max / 10932 calories spent
Pre breakfast: Chocolate milk.
Breakfast: Yogurt with fruit, oatmeal with fruit, blueberry muffin, hard boiled egg, OJ.
SAG 1: (skipped)
SAG 2: Banana, rice Krispies treat.
SAG 3: 2 oreos, slice of orange.
Lunch: Chicken fajita, peaches, coke.
SAG 4: Banana.
SAG 5: 1/2 cup of Mountain Dew (there was no coke).
Pre dinner: Medium strawberry shake with whipped cream, 4 chicken nuggets.
Dinner: At Denny's, smoothie, caesar salad with chicken and avocado, Ultimate Skillet (Grilled breakfast sausage, fresh spinach, fire-roasted peppers and onions, mushrooms, grape tomatoes and seasoned red-skinned potatoes served on a hot sizzlin' skillet. Topped with a smoky cheese blend and two eggs any style).
Long day today as we have to gain some mileage. Still wearing two shorts, but things are getting much better down there. The weather was nice with lots of tail wind except on the last 15 miles which turned into a head wind, ouch.
Well, we are in Oklahoma now. We rode along Old Route 66 which I guess used to be prosperous long time ago, not anymore. Lots of small decaying buildings and towns as most of the traffic now rushes past on the gleaming highway I-40 just a few yards away. Given the bad condition of the road in many places, I was very tempted to do the same: get on the I-40 and bypass history.
It's late I need to go to bed so this is it, but first, I'll have a bath with salts that Lori sent me. I have a package from her waiting for me at every hotel.
PS. Notice that I changed from Snack to SAG (Support And Gear) which is more accurate.

A few years ago this could have been where we stayed. We rode many miles on the Old Route 66, now just old with lots of history and moribund towns.

In Shamrock, TX, they still hold on to hope. Many roadside museums, I have no idea what they curate in these museums and I didn't have time to find out.

Green!

Somewhere along Route 66 we crossed into Oklahoma. If we had been on the I-40 freeway just a few yards away we'd probably had seen some big sign. This was my first clue I was in another state.

This is where ALL the people of Dryline, OK live.

I love those old buildings too, Nico. Haunted and sad. They always make me think about when they were built. The care that went into the construction. The plans and dreams. The lives that passed through them.
ReplyDeleteNow it's just insane bicyclists passing by them.
Keep those pictures coming.
so, is it bad that your diet is pretty much the same as mine...and uhhh, I cant even remember the last time I rode my bike...
