Breakfast: Cheerios with yogurt & strawberries, oatmeal & strawberries
Snack 1: Banana
Snack 2: Banana, Gu, slice of watermelon
Lunch: Turkey, chicken salad, cheese sandwich
Snack 3: Banana with Nutella, 1/2 coke
Snack 4: Coke
Dinner: Chicken burrito
Snack 5: Energy bar.
Today started nice and cool with a lot of climbing, we got so close to the Mexican border that I got to see The Fence and a lot of border patrol, felt surreal and on top of that, my cellphone picked up the Mexican carrier and ATT wanted to charge me international roaming, bastards!
First things first, Lori and I had a nice day in San Diego on Saturday after thad Day 0 ride, we got to see the Little Italy Farmers Market and enjoy ourselves. Not bad given that we hadn't seen each other for 10 days and that we won't se each other for another 17!
After lunch we had a bit more climbing and then a sweet nice fast descent into an oven turned to 103 degrees (the Yuha Desert for those geographically inclined), then we hit a stretch of bad road that loosened my tooth fillings and my bowels (not really true, but felt like it); it was so bad that my bicycle seat sank a full inch giving me knee pain until I figured out what was happening. I really undersand why the economy out here is so bad: nobody can work on this heat, except the border patrol picking up poor dehydrated Latinos trying to cross the border: tragic.
Tomorrow is expected to be as hot, but at least flatter. Thank god Lori persuaded me to get an "ice sock", that's a tube sock filled with ice that you wrap around your neck. It keeps you cool for about 45 min to an hour on this heat. On top of that a pair of compression leggings were waiting for me at the hotel, courtesy of...yup, Lori.
